Bonnie I. Cogar

Bonnie Irene Cogar, 88 of Bolair, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, peacefully at her home in the wee hours on Thursday, June 13, 2024. She was born October 12, 1935 in Centralia, WV to the late Burl and Clara Clutter Hosey. 

Bonnie was a homemaker for many years, enjoying camping, cooking, canning, gardening, sitting on her front porch drinking coffee watching the birds and anything with her family, especially the Dollywood trips. She attended Elk Valley Chapel and was a member of the choir and was the song leader for many years until her health declined and she wasn’t able anymore. She loved helping with Bible school and being the snack lady. Her love for the Lord was out of this world and for anyone who ever heard her testimonies, you could tell how much she did love Him. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Alva Cogar; grandson Stephen M. Cogar; daughter-in-law Sue Cogar; and siblings Dorothy Baughman, Dollie Dilley, Elbert “Scott” Hosey and Hayward “Bazzle” Hosey. 

She is survived by her only child Steve Cogar of Bolair; one granddaughter Elizabeth (Terry) Short of Frametown; great-grandchildren Natalie Sue, Maddison, Maci and Trent Short; sister Mabel (James) Giles of Bolair; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family, church family, and friends.

The family of Bonnie would like to thank WVU Medicine Home Health for the excellent care for her weekly. Especially Catherine, Lacy, Amanda, Asasha, Susie, Denise Hamrick at WCMH and Webster Senior Center Staff. 

Steve would also like to thank Peg Cogar and Dolly Cogar for helping out with Bonnie during the day, he doesn’t know what he would have done without you both.

Friends may join the family for visitation on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs. Funeral Services to celebrate Bonnie’s life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs with Pastors Kyle Hall and Doy Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in Beaver Run Cemetery.
