Gregg David “Tubbs” Carpenter, 72, of Glasgow, formerly of Webster Springs passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Glasgow Hills.
Born July 10, 1952 in Webster Springs, he was the son of the late Sampson “Junior” and Geraldine “Juggy” (Ware) Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dusty Carpenter and sister-in-law, Debbie Carpenter.
Tubbs was a 1970 graduate of Webster Springs High School, where he was a phenomenal football player; he furthered his education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from West Virginia Technical College. He then became employed with Middle River Aircraft and Lockheed Martin Aerospace for 31 years where he inspected bombs for the United States Department of Defense and inspected parts made to go on Space Shuttles/Rockets for NASA; he retired in 2010. He enjoyed traveling the world and seeing different sites and cities, but he enjoyed Alaska and spending time anywhere tropical most; and no matter where life took him, he was sure to find a fishing pole and make a big catch while deep-sea fishing. He also enjoyed traveling to Bluegrass Festivals with his best friend, Darlene Ratliff. While Gregg never married or had children, he often boasted of how great life was with his brothers and their families; spoiling his nieces and nephews just as he would have his own. Gregg made friends very easily and kept those friends near and dear to him whenever possible. Family and friends alike always looked forward to their yearly fall “Crabfest” with him as their host. He was so good, in fact, he was deemed a Master Chef of seafood
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Randy Carpenter; niece and nephew: Heather (Chris) Campbell, and Ryan Carpenter; great-niece, Jayde Hamrick; great-nephews: Bo Carpenter and Jase Campbell; and a host of extended relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Services to celebrate Tubbs’ life will be held 2pm, Monday, February 24, 2025 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Pastor Doy Carpenter officiating. Friends may join the family from 1pm-2pm, prior to the service. Burial will follow beside his parents at Miller Cemetery, Backfork.
