Jennings Junior McCourt

Jennings Junior “Bullshipper” McCourt, 85 of Webster Springs passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.

Jennings was born December 5, 1938 in Webster Springs to the late Roscoe and Surilda Skeens McCourt. He is survived by his loving wife Jodeen Spiker McCourt whom he met while he was stationed in Nebraska. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad until returning to West Virginia in 1971. Jennings spent most of his years driving truck; hauling coal from Peaker Run until he retired from hauling logs. He was an avid hunter, though his favorite was spring gobbler season. He cherished most of all spending time with his family especially at his camp up Desert Fork. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Verdon McCourt, Vella Hall, Irene Scritchfield, Boots Miller, Midge Hamrick, Shelby McElroy, Ted McCourt, Judy Payne and Jimmy McCourt.

Along with his loving wife Jodeen, left to cherish his memory are his daughter Shelly (Fred) Velasco, son, Mark McCourt; grandchildren, April Cochran, Amber (Scott) Hamrick, James Cochran, Tyler Neal, Gage McCourt, Jenna McCourt; great grandchildren, Lottie and Aryana Hamrick ; one sister, Annie Kamine and also many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, August 23, 2024 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs with Pastor Curt Davis officiating. Military honors will follow at Harrison Cochran Cemetery, Grassy Creek. Friends may join the family for visitation 6-9 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.
