Mr. Jerry Allen Westfall Sr., 65, of Cowen passed away suddenly on March 17, 2010 at the Webster County Hospital. A son of Steven J. and Mary Louise (Jackson) Westfall, Jerry was born September 3, 1944 in Richwood, WV. He was a former resident of Parkersburg but lived the last 31 years in Cowen. Jerry served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS F.D. Roosevelt (CVA-42) aircraft carrier - Sixth Fleet Deployment in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Oceans and was honorably discharged in 1965. He was a member of Local Parkersburg Union 787 (Ornamental & Structural Iron Workers) and was a welder/fabricator in the coal industry. He was a state certified welder in numerous states and certified with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Jerry helped construct skyscrapers, bridges, electrical and nuclear power plants, industrial complexes and locks and dams. Projects of note include Willow Island and Three Mile Island Power Plants, Robert C. Byrd Locks & Dam and the Marietta Bridge. In Webster County he worked for Spring Ridge Coal Co. and Evergreen (ICG). Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing; was a Christian and attended the Emmanuel Assembly of God. He was a loving husband and a model father. He will be missed tremendously by his family: wife Linda M. Westfall; son Jerry Allen Westfall Jr. of Charleston; brother Gary Eugene Westfall of Cowen and sister Brenda Joyce and husband Pat Greene of Craigsville. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Seven Westfall. Friends may gather with the family on Saturday March 20, 2010 from 6 to 9 PM in the chapel of Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs. The Funeral service will be Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 2 PM also at the funeral home with Reverends Marty Cowger, Bennie Cowger and Pat Green officiating. Jerry will be laid to rest in the Meadowland Cemetery in Bergoo, WV.
