Opha Elbert Carpenter 97 of 636 Cleveland Rd., Hacker Valley, WV, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Hacker Valley, WV, Oct. 6, 1914, son of the late Jasper Newton and Roena Cowger Carpenter. He worked as a timber cutter for Ralph Harper Lumber Co., with 30 years of service. He lived his whole life in Webster County. He was a Christian and enjoyed gardening and hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Ray &
Dale Carpenter, a sister: Macil Simmons, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Opha is survived by his wife of 77 years (Married May 18, 1935): Ada Pearl Fisher Carpenter of Hacker Valley, WV, two daughters: Thelma Currence of Sutton, WV, and Gathel Wireman of French Creek, WV, two brothers: Hubert
and Olen Carpenter both of Hacker Valley, six sister: Edna Simmons of Webster Springs, Alma
Anderson and Alta Cogar both of Hacker Valley, Bertha Simmons of Buckhannon, WV, Goldie Cool of Morgantown, and Margie Cutlip of Hacker Valley, WV, grandchildren: Lisa Wireman, Phillip Wireman, Donnie Currence, Jay Currence, Roger Currence Bonnie Quick, and Ronnie Carpenter, 7 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, Dodd & Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Cochran and Rev. Chris Cosner officiating. Burial will follow in Ware Cemetery, Replete, WV. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home.
