Wanda Jane (Pierson) Longacre, 85, of Charleston, formerly of Webster Springs, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born on July 17, 1930, in Procious, Clay County, one of 14 children born to Walter and Anna (Legg) Pierson. A 1948 graduate of Clay County High School, Wanda earned her degree in education from Morris Harvey College in Charleston. She began her 38 year teaching career in a one-room school in Elkhurst, West Virginia. Wanda was a long-time resident of Webster Springs, West Virginia, which she called home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn V. Longacre, Jr.; her parents; and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Tonia L. Chismar and son-in-law Dennis Chismar of Castle Rock, Colorado and granddaughter Claire Oliver of Charleston; son, Glenn V. Longacre, III and granddaughter Madeline N. Longacre of Plainfield, Illinois; and sisters Katherine Davis of St. Albans and Melinda Pierson of Clendenin. Wanda will especially be missed by her devoted friend Encil Bailey of Charleston.
Memorial Services to celebrate Wanda’s life will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home.
